Hi,
I think I have found a good canvas size for my use. 1500x1125 seems to work well. In the Preferences I have set the default size to 1500x1125, but when I open a new image, I still have to change the canvas size in the dialog box. Is there a way to have SA automatically open a image at the 1500x1125 without having to manually change the size?
I appreciate all the wonderful help and support everyone has given me!
Thanks,
Art

Hi Art
if you use 'open source' to bring in a new image the image should then fit your canvas [ even if it is different aspect, it will stretch ] as far as I am aware only the first two open options 'new source and canvas' and 'recent source and new canvas' will ask for size - since that is what they are for : )

Excellent! That did it. Thanks,

Under the FIle : Import menu you can directly import an image into the canvas if you want to edit it photoshop style. I believe that sets up the save file naming to key off of the imported image name. But that's not going to load it into the source area.
In general, would people want the save naming to key off of the source file name? I can think of cases where that would not be the case, but i'm open to suggestions. We could make it a preference option.
For my purposes using the file name is an advantage. Since all of my work is derived from photographs, my file system is my way of keeping track of many, many thousands of files. After I use SA, I just add a designation to the file name to indicating that it is a painting. It is then stored with my folder of images. I've also discovered that I can drag a image into SA, but when I go to save it, again, I need to retype the file name. Dragging a image certainly is easier than importing.
I think if there was a preference option, it would certainly be useful for me, and possibly others.
Hi Art
Like you [ and many, I suspect ] I usually make multiple 'attacks' on the same source and usually save them in the same folder as the original. On a mac when you 'save as' you can just click on the name of the original file [ assuming its in the same folder as your saving to ] which then fills the empty name box, then add your designation of choice - I find it a lot quicker than typing it everytime or coming up with alt names. The trouble with having a preference for this is that you could easily overwrite stuff. I'd prefer not to have the option of shooting myself in the foot!

You are right John. Just dragged a image in and when I saved it, the file name does appear in the save dialog. I thought I had tried it before and it did not have the file name.
B_man, your suggestion of clicking on the original file also works.
Thanks to you all...
