Is there a way just to take for example the path settings from one preset and copy it over to another?
There's a real art to creating path applications that enhance and compliment the results of a preset when in auto-paint mode as compared to say when hand painting. So copying/swapping successful auto-paint solutions between similar paint presets would be very useful.
Mingle and Evolution are great but do they do not allow as far as I can tell a way grab the specific modular function group settings of a preset and swap/send them to another?

You can use the 2 paint synthesizer Path Memories. You can access them via Edit : Paint Synthesizer : PathMemory menu commands to record and playback
You can alo access them as active commands near the bottom of the Paint Synthesizer Evolution help page in the internal help broser.
Many thanks John, I must be doing something wrong because I can't seem to get this to work.
Do I record from one preset by selecting the preset then press record in PS Path Memory 1 then press play in PS Path Memory 1 after I've selected the preset I wish to copy the path too? This is what I've been doing with no success. Perhaps this is not correct.
Sorry to trouble you but I couldn't find any info on the method in the manual nor in my notes.
The Path, Brush, and Patch memories associated with the paint synthesizer have been around since Studio Artist 1. Here's where they used to live in the older version of Studio Artist.
There were 4 path memories, 4 brush memories, and 4 patch memories located at the bottom of the paint synthesizer in the secondary control panel area. You used the little blue popup control on the bottom left to bring them on or off in the interface. Since the regular grid drove some artist's insane, we provided the option of hiding the visual clutter if you didn't need to use them.
Studio Artist 4 cut down the number of path and brush memories from 4 to 2 each. There are still 4 patch memories.
You are right, there seems to be an issue with the path memories in 4.03 where they are resetting the entire patch, not just the path part, so i'll add that on the list of things to fix for 4.04.
