I have a series of PASeqs I placed in my Current favorite folder.
I setup Gallery show to output each PASeq step as an image and to used the Preset Name as the file name.
When I ran Gallery show, the files names corresponded to the PASeq names NEXT in sequence, not the one currently being run. In one instance the files name did not change when the next PASeq was being used.
How can I insure the file names being created by Gallery Show will correspond to the correct PASeq. This is quite important for me because I eventually want to be able to rename every file to correspond to the exact step a PASeq is executing. The only way I can do this is be knowing every image has the correct PASeq name.
Thanks

Usually people use the 'enable write on gallery show cycle' write flag for the movie or image stream when working with gallery show.
Which write flag are you using?
enable write on OP end.
This allows me to capture every step of the PASeq I am showing.
The PASeq is a series of commands:
Set Canvas White
Autopaint -Active Tex Fill-pres
Set Canvas White
AutoPaint -Clone Source Soft
etc
I want to capture each OP so that I wind up with a set of reference images. Each one drawn by a different brush.
At the end I just remove all the images that were created by the Set Canvas White command.
I'll run some tests later today and see if we can clean it up for you. To be honest, no one here has probably used that write flag option with the special gallery show image naming features. They were probably only tested with 'enable write on gallery show cycle' write flag.

Since i'll be poking into that code, let's open up the discussion a little. Are there additional gallery show naming features people would like to see us add?
Permalink Reply by Bernard Bunner on March 25, 2012 at 11:49am Yes John. If you have mutate option, is there a possibility to save the mutate/random preset generated ?
For example, if you run a folder with some msg presets and you want to mutate/random them, is there a possibility to know how the mutate has worked, and save it ? History Sequence ??
Thanks
Do you mean as separate preset files? As opposed to just turning on record in the history sequence, which you can do now. The mutated or randomized preset is what is saved in the action step recorded in the history sequence when it's run by gallery show.
...
One interesting issue with saving the 'preset' for the 'effect' as gallery show has evolved is that it's possible for what appears to the user as a single gallery show 'effect' to actually be a sequence of different steps that worked together to create the 'effect'. I'm specifically talking about the 'Paint Draw Options', the 'Auto Mask Options', and gallery show processes that really consist of the main 'Technique' inter-meshing with the 'Start Cycle Option' calling up a second preset (like if it's referencing Current Favorites).
...
So i'm wondering if people would really want the sequence of steps saved as a PASeq in those situations? Or not? The Auto Mask is really very source dependent, and usually only makes sense as an effect that is working or not in the context of the history of what happened before.
Permalink Reply by Bernard Bunner on March 25, 2012 at 12:07pm Yes would be cool if possibility to generate the mutate/random presets used, in one folder and the pictures in another folder.
My brain starting hurting, trying to understand what you just described John :)
Are you sure that's not just brain freeze from some kailua shave ice?
After all, you're probably one of the only people on the forum who actually knows what an IFF file is.

One a more serious note, Gallery Show has some amazing features hidden away in there, just waiting to be explored. Here's some articles on gallery show, and some tips. In looking at these, i'm realizing that some additional features have crept into gallery show over the 4.0 point updates. So we should probably post some new feature articles that cover some of the newer features, and more advanced things you can try out.
Thanks John.
How about extending the naming convention of the, "Image Stream Name Option", to include Paint Action Sequence steps.
This would allow people to review all intermediate steps of a process and see what the effects of each PASeq step had on their subject.
Have you been able to figure out what's going on here John?
It's on my (long) list of things to do. Hopefully i can take a look at it later today, and get back to you.
Ok, it's coded to work exactly like what you are seeing. It's assuming you are using the 'write frame on gallery show cycle', so the gallery show file naming option code is run at the end of gallery show cycle code.

Fixing it isn't a problem, but there is more to dealing with it than a simple fixed code change. So whether i do that for 4.05 or save it for 4.06 is something i'm going to think about tonight. We've frozen 4.05 in the hope of getting it out the door soon, and it's a big enough change that i don't necessarily want to 'fix' it and 'break' something else in gallery show in the process. Sleeping on it also might give me better insight into a more elegant fix than what i currently see. Otherwise i'd just deal with it and email you a new 4.05 beta.
...
The other additional feature options discussed (additional naming options), and (mutated preset output) are cool ideas, so i think we'll be adding those. To version 5 code however.
