I just paid 2 visits to a fabulous show organized by the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec in Quebec City. The show focuses on the works of 2 painters who shared their lives for nearly 25 years, Jean-Paul Riopelle and Joan Mitchell.
I went into the show as a fan of Riopelle (he had been my favourite Canadian painter for many many years) and curious about the work of Mitchell as I only knew it in photos, even if we shared common friends (more on that in a later post).
I came out of my first visit a total and unconditional fan of Mitchell’s glorious work, and considerably less interested in Riopelle’s.
