Hi there,

I'm a new user and I'm really enjoying the program so far. However there's this one thing I can't seem to figure out. I'm doing a rotoscoped video using the Paint Action Sequence and the brush preset I'm using is the WaterColor Sketch.

The problem is it looks fine in a smaller aspect ratio (like 640x360) but when I change the canvas size to 1920X1080 the colour wears really thin (see the attached photo). How can I have the 1920X1080 video (see right side of photo) look like the smaller one (see left side of photo) in terms of thickness of the paint?

I contacted technical support to get help for this and a couple of other problems and the guy I talked to was really helpful and solved all my other problems but for this he suggested I increase the brush size, which doesn't seem to work since I'm not doing this in the Paint Synthesizer Classic mode. When I go into the editor in Paint Action Sequence mode I don't get any settings for brush sizes, just some playback options.

I'd really appreciate some help with this, since I really love the outcome using the WaterColor Sketch brush and really want to use it for my project. If you guys don't know how to change the brush size or density for the Paint Action Sequence mode, does anyone know how to simulate the WaterColour Sketch brush in the Paint Synthesizer classic mode?

Thanks a lot!

  • It sounds like you are confused about how to edit action steps in a PASeq. Yes, if you are in PASeq operation mode, then the Editor will show adjustable settings for the overall PASeq. But if you click on any of the individual action steps in the PASeq, then the Editor will switch to the operation mode associated with that action step.

Any action step in a PASeq has an associated operation mode. So, if you play a specific PASeq action step, like one using the paint synthesizer, then the paint synthesizer is setup so that all of it's Editor controls match the settings for the paint stored in the PASeq action step.

You can then edit the paint synthesizer control sin the Editor if you want to modify them. And then, after editing them, if you option click the red keyframe at frame time 1 for the action step in the PASeq editor, then you will record the editing changes you made to that action step.

Or, you could control click on the action step, and use the Interface to Action Step menu command to overwrite the action step with the current Editor settings for that action step.

Or you could just record a new action step with the changes, select the old one, and press the delete key to get rid of it. So there are 3 different ways to edit an action step in a PASeq.

This intro tip on PASeqs includes some information on the context menu options i mentioned for overwriting individual action steps.

Studio Artist is in Italy!

I was crawling the streets of Matera, Italy today and may have discovered where SA is hiding!  (see attached photo). Not meaning to make light of this great, sad mystery. But I just couldn't resist as I try to make sense of what's happening. Losing my connection to SA, Synthetik and John has been a great sadness... and if real, ends a monumental era in my creative life. love,~Victor

Teenage Tongue Cult

Hi, here is the video I made back in 2010 for my song "Teenage Tongue Cult". I finally found my master folder of image sequence files for it on one of my old hard drives, and since the version I had on my Vimeo was of pretty terrible pixelated low quality visually, I re-did it yesterday. It has extensive use of Studio Artist through the whole thing. I made it by first animating the characters and scenes in Flash, against a mostly kind of muddy green background, a color I knew wasn't being used…
