New SA5 user - Windows 10 and QuickTime

I'm a very new user. After playing with the Studio Artist trial for a couple weeks I decided to purchase SA5. It's awesome. The only drawback I have is that I am a Windows 10 user and I do not have QuickTime installed and I'm hesitant to do so because of the security issues.

I heard the only security issue is when .mov files are downloaded and/or played from the internet, but I am still hesitant.

I read online when installing QuickTime on Windows the 'Custom' setup should be used and all components should be marked with a red cross (and thus disabled and/or not installed) except for 'QuickTime Essentials'.

I would then only have QuickTime Essentials installed, the actual QuickTime Player and the browser plug-ins (which I read online are the most vulnerable components at risk) would not be installed.

I realize I would not be able to play .mov files on my PC without the QuickTime Player but my question is: Will I have full use of Studio Artist itself with only QuickTime Essentials installed or do I need the QuickTime Player?

If I do need the QuickTime Player, does anyone know how much of a risk I'll be taking?

Many thanks,
Ray

  • No need to install the optional features. We don't do that here.

I think the Player is useful, so we do instal that here so that we can use it to look at QT files we work with on the computer itself.

However, you don't need it to be installed to use Studio Artist with quicktime.

The only potential security issue would be if you downloaded some compromised unknown QT file from the web and then viewed it. So just don't do that.

Studio Artist is in Italy!

I was crawling the streets of Matera, Italy today and may have discovered where SA is hiding!  (see attached photo). Not meaning to make light of this great, sad mystery. But I just couldn't resist as I try to make sense of what's happening. Losing my connection to SA, Synthetik and John has been a great sadness... and if real, ends a monumental era in my creative life. love,~Victor

Teenage Tongue Cult

Hi, here is the video I made back in 2010 for my song "Teenage Tongue Cult". I finally found my master folder of image sequence files for it on one of my old hard drives, and since the version I had on my Vimeo was of pretty terrible pixelated low quality visually, I re-did it yesterday. It has extensive use of Studio Artist through the whole thing. I made it by first animating the characters and scenes in Flash, against a mostly kind of muddy green background, a color I knew wasn't being used…
