paint fill apply query

I was working with paint fill apply, and was wondering about the 'dual fill algorithm'..

I am trying to understand in what circumstances I would apply it?... also what does is meant by an N paint nib? as referred to in the manual.

Dual fill algorithms alternate between 2 different fill algorithms. So you might be alternating between a normal fill algorithm that lays down a paint nib vs a fill algorithm that warps the existing canvas in some way. So if N is set to 4, then the first normal fill is followed by 3 fills using the second algorithm (4 fills in the complete dual fill cycle).

Many of the wet paint presets we offer use dual fill algorithms. the particular type of second fill used in the dual fill is specified by which of the dual fill options you select. Displacement fill options for the second fill are very useful in simulating wet paint effects.

thankyou, that is very clear now. My only question..and i'm sorry if it sounds dumb; but, when you refer to "N" do you mean the number of nibs that can be selected with the #Nib slider in the multi pen mode?

I think the N in the documentation you were reading is referring to the number of nibs applied in one fill1 - fill2 cycle of the dual fill algorithm. The dual fill algorithm switches between fill alg1 and fill alg2 as you paint in a paint path sequentially.

The parameter in the Paint Fill Apply control panel that controls the number of Algorithm2 nib fills in a dual fill cycle is called Alg2 Mix Ratio 2-1. So if Alg2 Mix Ratio 2-1 is set to 3, then the number of total nibs in a single dual fill cycle would be 1 (fill alg1) + 3 (fill alg2) = 4. So N would be 4.

One dual fill cycle with the settings above would fill as follow:

alg1, alg2, alg2, alg2

The cycles repeat as the paint path is drawn:

alg1, alg2, alg2, alg2, alg1, alg2, alg2, alg2, etc

Multi pen mode is something totally different.
