Hi All...
I find myself coming back to Studio Artists over large spans of time, weeks or months at a time. I'll have dry spells and then see something about an upgrade, or see something that reminds me of Studio Artist, and the next thing I know, the house is completely quiet, dark, and I'm the only one still up.
I have no system when working with Studio Artist, and I'm pretty much trial and error, or I should say tweak and undo. Sometimes I end up with something that I truly like and would maybe replicate in a different theme. The problem is I never have invested enough time to learn how to record a paint sequence. ( I think that is the correct term?)
I would like to be able to start a new image, and have it record everything I do to a text file. Something like: what I started with, what the paint synths I've chosen, any tweaks from the default settings I make, essentially everything I laydown and tweak on the crystal display. I would like to set this up as a default, so that when I start a new image it is recording this info for me automatically. I would like to be able to go to the "image history" and see a story of everything I did to create that current image.
Is this feature built into Studio Artist? The ability to record all your actions to a text file and then enable you to recreate the process by reviewing the text file. Or does the recording of a paint action sequence provide this information in a textual context?
Thank you!

If you open the HISTORY window and click the "record" box, Studio Artist will record everything you do on the canvas. When you are done, you can then click "Play" and it will playback all the steps in the History. This is not exactlly like creating a text file of all your settings... but it effectively lets you explore and replaying anything. Frankly SA has so very many setting which can all be adjusted and tweaked ad infinitum, that it would not be so convenient to see this all displayed as text.
Anytime you want you can save (export) a history sequence to be played back anytime.
Hope this helps.

Paint Action Sequence (PASeq) or History sequence recording is the way to go if you want to record what you do in Studio Artist and then play it back. The advantage of using the History Sequence is that it will also record anything you do when you run PASeq preset effects.
Recording a PASeq or a History sequence is easy. You just bring up the PASeq or History palette (Windows menu), and turn on the Rec checkbox at the top of the palette. When recording is turned on, then any action you run in Studio Artist is recorded as an action step in the sequence list. Any manual painting or interactive warp or adjust interactions will also be recorded as individual action steps.
PASeq and History sequences are essentially the same thing, the file format is the same, you can drag and drop actions steps from one to the other, etc.
Here's a tip that's an introduction to Paint Action Sequences.
