question about alpha selections when saving sessions

Hi,

when I create a session consisting of multiple layers - with each layer created from a different source image. Each one of these layers is basically an alpha selection.

During the session I can look at each individual layer and toggle between the full alpha associated with it and the selection associated with it. Which is good for making any changes to the selection.

I then save the session. When I reload it later I go to each individual layer and all that is saved is the alpha selection of the respective images for each layer. I can no longer toggle to 'alpha full on' and see the whole image associated with that layer.

Is there a way to save the session with this info?

I am using the 64 bit version.

I hope that all makes sense

Thanks

  • Have you tried setting the selection to the current layer alpha channel after opening the session? then you could do what you were doing before you saved the session.

    • I have, but my problem lies in the fact that that I can see the selection I made in my original session, but the image is no longer there outside of the selection. Which means I can't change the original selection..if I do make a new selection on the layer and set alpha to this new selection it just appears as the alpha background colour. Only the image within the original selection is saved.

I enclose a picture; in this image I do the following:  'canvas - alpha - set to - full on'

as you can see only the selection is visible.

      • I'll take a look at the session code for the future.

I guess for now you could make an extra layer before you save your session file, and set it to the selection. then you would have it available when you open the session file in the extra layer. You could then set the selection to that canvas layer.

You can also use the Fixed Image ip op to route images around between different layers, or to and from the selection buffer or the layer's alpha channel. So if a menu option in alpha set to or selection set to is missing, you can use that to generate what you want.

        • Thanks, I will do that, I just thought I would ask in case I was missing something.

Studio Artist is in Italy!

I was crawling the streets of Matera, Italy today and may have discovered where SA is hiding!  (see attached photo). Not meaning to make light of this great, sad mystery. But I just couldn't resist as I try to make sense of what's happening. Losing my connection to SA, Synthetik and John has been a great sadness... and if real, ends a monumental era in my creative life. love,~Victor

Teenage Tongue Cult

Hi, here is the video I made back in 2010 for my song "Teenage Tongue Cult". I finally found my master folder of image sequence files for it on one of my old hard drives, and since the version I had on my Vimeo was of pretty terrible pixelated low quality visually, I re-did it yesterday. It has extensive use of Studio Artist through the whole thing. I made it by first animating the characters and scenes in Flash, against a mostly kind of muddy green background, a color I knew wasn't being used…
