This is something that has not happened before, so thought would share it.
I resized an image and got this result which includes a smaller version of the same, upper left corner. The added artifacts of the larger image (circled in yellow) and outlines in the cloth (which are not visible in the smaller image) are most likely from a sketch mass process generated earlier on one of the 3 layers I was working in. Did not record the process and only saved the session.
In the resize dialog there is a 'no interpolate' option, and if you turned that on then the original canvas image would be positioned at the top left corner of the canvas.
