Is it possible to...
1.Run a preset.
2.Make a selection.
3.Run another preset in that selection?
I want to take an image and start with rough background and move forward, refining it as I go, but being selective where I make changes.
I've looked at the Selection options, but not sure how it works. I tried layers, but no luck?

Think I've got it.
Run Preset
Make selection
Tick the Mask Option Box in top tool bar
Run any other Preset
The trick is ticking the Mask Box...
You can use the cmd y hot key command to turn masking on and off. If reaching for the Mask checkbox in the operation toolbar is slowing you down.
You can do what you want to do. Sounds like you figured it out.
A PASeq always records the mask status when it was run. Whether or not the mask status plays back when the PASeq plays is a function of the Mask Playback parameter in the PASeq Editor.
If MaskPlayback is off, then you can make a selection, turn on masking, and then have the PASeq preset's effect masked with your current selection.
