Hi, is there a way to scratch off the paint so it shows the prior paint layer below, or a specific brush setting that I could use to scratch off paint to show previous layer below?
Thanks,
Heather
Hi John I have no idea what you are going through. However the impact you have made not to continue with the user forum and your desire keep it as a permanent feature as promised in the past is a big shock. It also betrays the faith and love we have shown in you and Studio Artist. Bluntly spoken, it sucks. That you have chosen to follow this direction in silence, allowing no compassion or understanding on our part is a betrayal of the deepest level. What is going on? This is not the John…
Read more…Hi everyone, I am glad the site is still here! Here is a new short video I made. All made in Studio Artist, several separate videos with alpha channels, then combined in layers with the music in Blender. A lot of MSG running through brushes, with several of the brush Path Starts being controlled by the MSG Scan Generator in the Generator part of the Path Start in the Paint Synthesizer. Also some MSG running through a brush, then making a video of that with an alpha channel, then making that a…

Is anyone at Synthetik doing any development work at all?

If you have alpha view enabled, then you should be able to use an alpha eraser to erase just the alpha channel, and you'd see what was below. If you don't have a folder of Eraser paint presets with some alpha erases in them i can dig up some for you.
Here's a tip on working with alpha view in layers.

You can also build specific paint tools that work with other layers as their source. So you could avoid the whole alpha view thing, and just edit an existing paint tool to paint with what is in another layer.
The Bus1 parameter is in the Miscellaneous control panel, and it lets you choose a specific layer to be on Bus1. Then you can sue Bus1 anywhere it shows up in the paint synth as a modulator or source.
So the Brush Load options all have Bus1 in the list of things you can use as a source. So that's how you route it into the paint, probably through Brush Load, and then using Brush Load as your Fill From option in Paint Fill Setup control panel.
Hi Heather, I normally use a brush
like this
then go to alpha in the editor window and set it to this to create a painterly scratch out..
