SHORT KEY for "run automatic action"

I have tried to find a short key for the RUN AUTOMATIC ACTION. The magic Megafone icon.

I found tedious to go back and forwards with the mouse. I guess if there's a KEY it will make the process much faster and accurate.

Thanks in advance!

Best wishes

Daniel in Texas.

  • On mac, cmd + R, Daniel...

    • Oppppss! Have a PC. it's the ctrl + R. It works. Thank you!

      • Here's an old tip for windows users that lists some of the key differences associated with mac vs windows. Most of our documentation tends to be mac focused as far as screen shots and mentioned key commands.

  • It's command r. If you look in the main menus, the command keys associated with them are listed in the menus. So do current action menu is located at the top of the main Action menu, and you can see the command r shortcut listed there next to it.

    • Thank you John. It's such an important KEY (The megaphone) that would deserve only one key on the left side of the keyboard. Now the problem is to strike 2 keys fairly separated with one hand. Force my pinkie and index fingers to do the trick. After a while it will "rotoscope" my hand! It will be cool if there would be a way to go CAPS LOCK and choose a single key from thr middle to the left of the keyboard.

Have you consider creating a special SA keypad?

One of the most elegant pads I ever had was the one from the TurboCube. Editing was like eating Chantilly Cream!

I will find a pix and will post for you to see... Thanks for the tips!

      • Historically, we used the spacebar (mirroring the behavior of a lot of DAW audio software). There are some mac specific technical reasons why that feature went away. But the remnants of that are still there, since you use the spacebar to stop actions in Studio Artist.

'Command - key' is a standard long time mac convention for key control of menus.

To be honest, the modern interaction api's provided by illustrious computer manufacturers kind of go out of there way to make hot key control support more difficult (or easier to break) than it was in the past. Some of this is probably a side effect of tablet ways of thinking invading desktop software apis. Since the notion of hot keys makes no sense on a keyboard less tablet device. Historically we made heavy use of hot keys associated with mouse down behavior to do all kinds of things. But the way key stroke events are processed makes this more problematic these days, since individual objects in the interface can completely take over event handling for keystrokes.

There are 3rd party key command mapper controllers that people have used in the past (pure software, or software/hardware combinations) to control Studio Artist. You might be able to find some old discussions about this here on the user forum. People have used those to map command key menus to specific controller keys, or buttons in some floating palette external software widget.

        • Thank you John.

I do have a Wacom Intuos Pro and planing to hook it up to my current set up and see how it goes in few weeks. Still learning the SA flows and want to have a solid control base, then will be able to expand to Wacom & SA. So Intuos probably will have access with the pen to click the magic "Megaphone" and make things more fluid.

          • The Intuos Pro ExpressKeys are priceless, I rely heavily on them both in studio and live performances work. They can be configured for a specific application, the way my Intuos works with SA is different from Final Cut Pro or the System. Here’s a video made by Wacom that helps understand how to set them up (“source to canvas” and “run loop action” are always mapped to an ExpressKey for me in SA, other functions may vary depending on the situation). I find the pen buttons (“clicks”) annoying, it seems too easy for me to trigger them unintentionally, so the first thing I do in setting up the Wacom functions is to disable them, relying instead on both the tablet’s ExpressKeys and keyboard shortcuts.

I use the keyboard shortcuts mostly to trigger my favorite presets (I have several sets) so I can change tool on the fly without having to take my eyes away from the image.

            Your mileage may vary.

Is anybody making a copy of all the material in the Tutorials Forum

Since the Forum is going away in June, has anyone started to make a copy of all the stuff in the Tutorials forum?I've made copies of some of the tutorial material on the main site, but haven't looked at the Tutorial Forum yet.I'm going to continue copying as much as I can for my own personal use anyway, but if anyone else is doing it, or has already started doing it, please let me know.Maybe we can co-ordinate our efforts. ps can't ..... believe John, would let this happen without so much as a…

Studio Artist is in Italy!

I was crawling the streets of Matera, Italy today and may have discovered where SA is hiding!  (see attached photo). Not meaning to make light of this great, sad mystery. But I just couldn't resist as I try to make sense of what's happening. Losing my connection to SA, Synthetik and John has been a great sadness... and if real, ends a monumental era in my creative life. love,~Victor
