StudioArtist 5

I just bought the upgrade and I've been dashing through presets after presets and going "wwooooow".

Synthetik, you people have created something so different, bold, and powerful that when I open this program I'm always somehow inspired and surprised. There's always something new and many programs just can't do that.

There's this serendipity, this sort of "ah yes! THAT!" instinct that kicks in which many others get too traditional or too normal that you're given something kinda generic.

It's not to say everything in SA is 100% going to fit everyone, some people like that generic stuff, but as an artist, and a super happy owner of the program, I really just can't let go of it.

Thank you John, and all programmers, beta testers, everyone who made this program yet another magical experience.

  • Thanks for your kind words. I'm sure the people who worked on the new preset collection will especially appreciate them.

One thing we did in V5 was bring up Paint Action Sequence (PASeq) presets at startup, as opposed to bringing up Paint Synthesizer presets like we have done in the past. We made this decision because it seemed like a lot of our users frankly didn't even know that part of the program existed, or choose to ignore it. The real power of Studio Artist is the ability to combine different kinds of paint and image processing effects together to build up unique and customization aesthetic art styles. The hope was that by immediately exposing people to PASeqs, we could give them a better sense of the vast range of different effects they could create, and how they could combine individual effects to build up more finished work.

V5 also has a wide range of new vector effects, both in the paint synthesizer as well as the Vectorizer. We feel these vector effects are unique, in that they have enough visual complexity that they enable one to emulate artistic styles you would have needed raster processing to do in the past. So the new presets try to showcase that as well.

As is always the case with any Studio Artist release, the factory presets only begin to offer a taste of the vast range of potential effects you could create if you are willing to get under the hood and do your own custom programming.

Gallery show features have been greatly enhanced, and the new features in gallery show are very useful for automatically generating new presets, as well as offer new ways to generate procedural art.

  • I too am totally impressed with this version. It goes beyond the imagination. Wow…the results I came up with just a little experimentation were absolutely amazing!

SA5 program feels much more fluid and I can see much greater animation possibilities as well. I like the additions to the selections. Layer mute is a great time saver and addition.

This opens the door to a form of creativity on a level that I find hard to place in words. Recently I had been playing with Paint Action Sequence a lot in SA4. You are right John. They were hard to access. I only discovered them on a deeper level by using gallery show and then stopping it at points to save the preset associated with a particular result.  I am astounded by the new presets in V5. Great choices.

I did find one glitch that needs to be worked out...the layer transparency button for percentages does not work well. When I try to adjust them amount the box closes and I can not see the numbers until I click on another layer. I will upload a screen shot.

I am looking forward to experimenting with the vectorizer. That is a first love of mine.

Actually John, I am at a loss for words here. This program redefines the parameters for creativity. I could spend years and years playing with it and not even scratch the surface of the possibilities. In just 15 minutes I also have found a new level of color possibilities.

Kudos to you all and thanks as well. Hehehehe.... Now I will be left to struggle with how to allot the way I use the hours of the day. Should I blame you all for a lack of sleep? What a profound choice!

    Thanks again.

    • paul, the layer-window is flexible, you could get more viewspace for percentage by dragging the vertical splitters to the left, or you could place the layer-window to another workspace-layout that gives you more space in generally.

      • Thanks Max...It works fine now...big improvement...but what is the button on the far right that changes the percentages randomly?

        • this little "clock"-wheel is an alternative input for your items: click, hold and turn.did't really need this;-)

          • Ahh I see said the blind man...I actually like it better than pushing arrows. It is very functional and quicker.   Thanks again.

    • I agree -- from what I've seen of the new options in v5, some amazing new directions are possible. Many new presets result in interesting artistic renderings that I don't think I'd ever seen out of v4 or 3. If I get some moments this next week, I will post a few of my favorites.

      Way to go Synthetik!

Studio Artist is in Italy!

I was crawling the streets of Matera, Italy today and may have discovered where SA is hiding!  (see attached photo). Not meaning to make light of this great, sad mystery. But I just couldn't resist as I try to make sense of what's happening. Losing my connection to SA, Synthetik and John has been a great sadness... and if real, ends a monumental era in my creative life. love,~Victor
