Tips for Sketch presets

Hello,

Can anyone give me tips on how to get good results from the paint sketch presets?

Often, my sketches will be very weak or have faint lines. Also, most times it doesn't give me a nice solid outline and will finish mid sketch / only sketch half the image.

How do I ...

  • create bold outlines
  • control edge threshold / edge detection
  • change line thickness
  • change brush/tip
  • how do I control the fill options ie. a sketch that fills mass vs. a sketch that fills outside the mass

I'm trying to get something that is like a cross between a sketch and a vector effect with the ability to change the tip/brush/stroke for various effects.

Any pointers would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

  • a few examples of your efforts would help. Also which sketch presets you have been exploring and an example of what you want as a result. There are many paths to a result in Studio Artist.

  • A specific answer depends on what particular paint preset(s) you are using, and how it is programmed.

The thickness of a paint stroke is a function of the maximum size of the brush (specified in the Brush Source) control panel. And how that size is then being modulated while drawing takes place (the top part of the Brush Modulation control panel).

This tip discusses how to control where paint strokes are drawn by appropriately programming the paint synthesizer.

Here's a tip that looks under the hood of a 'bamboo sketch effect' paint preset.

You might find this tip on generating tone in an image useful.

Another approach is to generate bezier paths from source edges, and then paint them in.

Here's a tip that discusses this in the context of a crisp pencil sketch effect.

    • This has been incredibly helpful. Many thanks, John.

Interdimensional Coincidence Control

Hi everyone, I am glad the site is still here! Here is a new short video I made. All made in Studio Artist, several separate videos with alpha channels, then combined in layers with the music in Blender. A lot of MSG running through brushes, with several of the brush Path Starts being controlled by the MSG Scan Generator in the Generator part of the Path Start in the Paint Synthesizer. Also some MSG running through a brush, then making a video of that with an alpha channel, then making that a…

Whats going on with this site?

Has anyone else gotten a warning about this site disappearing? An email form just popped up, asking me to contract the owner and leave a message to let them know that they may loose their "network"Did Synthetik forget to pay it's bills, or is something else going on?I think 8 months is more than enough vacation time. Is anyone at Synthetik doing any development work at all?

Having difficulty exporting canvas as image

I'd like to export a canvas as a .tiff/.tif image file to a folder I made on my desktop.I select that from a dropdown menu, I can name the exported file, change the extension, etc, and I press save but nothing happens. It's always worked until now. It seems like a simple task. Any ideas?I'm on Mac OSX 12.6, if that matters, and my system hasn't changed since the last time I was able to export successfully. Thanks
