Please forgive my newbie-ness

I just would like to know how to "export or save as" an image with an alpha channel or clipping path, so I can bring it into another program and have the background be transparent. The source image has a clipping path, and I just want to be able to save it out the same way, with a clipping path or mask.

I'm at my wits end. I've searched, read, pounded my head against the wall, etc. The program, it is so deep and vast, and me, not so much.

  • Saving with alpha can be a little confusing in SA.

The easiest way is probably to save the canvas as a png image.

If you are saving a tiff or photoshop file, you want to make sure you are in current layer view and that alpha view is enabled. This means you need to flatten a multi layer canvas if you want to save it with an alpha channel that is set to something other than full off.

Unlike some other programs, whether painting affects the alpha channel of a layer or not is user configurable. The default settings have this turned off, to keep things simple.

Here's a tip on working with alpha in layers.

    • Thank you John!

      I'll read through it again.
