Is it possible to make this with version 4 ?

V5 lets you use either a movie brush or an image folder brush when doing photo collage and/or photo mosaic. V4 restricts you to a movie brush.

So, you could certainly do it in V4. The advantage of the V5 image folder brush is that it's easy to dump your images into a folder and go, while constructing a movie brush takes a little more work to convert the folder of images into a movie file.

The other advantage of the image folder brush is that you can have variable sized and variable aspect ratio images in your brush. A movie brush uses the same size and aspect ratio for each frame in the movie. Now, you could get clever and build an embedded alpha channel movie brush that masked individual images in a frame if you wanted variable sizes and aspect ratios. But its more work than the V5 image folder brush.

Note that i'm using Paint Fill Apply control panel Nib Masking (local image range) to get the crisp edges. And i'm just dropping down single paint nibs using the image folder brush.

"Bernard's work is always inspiring.  Some of these would make interesting sculptural pieces.  If they could get translated to Rhino 3d, you could get a 3d print-out."
