nice.
Thankyou Victor!
very cool. Any chance you'd be up for sharing the preset you used to make this image. Would be cool to think about this as a vector effect, so i'll think about that.
Sure, it's probably not as exciting as you migh think...
I started with a tiny 15th century image of figures made from ribbons, I then drew it and simplified it.
I used an MSG preset called 'neon' MARK%20NEON%20copy.zip
It's in the MSG database collection, I uploaded it years ago.
I found it worked best on a small high contrasty image.
I then massively enlarged the canvas, used select on the black and painted in the image by firstly using source colour picker to get the purpley neon colour from the MSG..I cant remember which brush, something basic probably.
What I would like to do is create a shadow/reflection effect ..as if it's neon on a wall and the purpley colour is reflected onto the wall...I've tried loads of ideas, can anybody think of a way?
Below is the other image idea, which I want to appear to sit off the background.
OK, thanks. I was thinking that the preset was generating the segmented ribbons generated on the figures. As opposed to the ribbon appearance being built into the source images they were derived off of.
You could use some msg processors to build a shadow derived off of the source image, and then run your existing effect via IO routing in the MSG processor chain on the shadow output buffer as opposed to the original source image. Or build a PASeq that first generates the shadowing (lots of different options if you allow for all of Studio Artist effects (paint synth or vectorizer for example), and then runs the MSG effect on it.
Sorry John, I realised as I was replying that you probably thought that..still, food for thought ..someone might be inspired to create just such a preset
And having just looked the 'Escher ribbon effect' is out there

thanks for feedback re shadow effects
excellent Bernard, I'm behind the times ; )
