10 years already!

November 2017 marks the tenth anniversary of the start of my collaboration with the immense Italian harpsichordist Paola Erdas. We have made quite a collection of movies together since, and we are likely to do live concerts very soon, in Trieste, Italy. Our movies were made possible by the way Studio Artist has developed, so much of that can’t be done with other applications. I…See More

Rupture

“Rupture” is the second film I did in 2004 - 2005 with the National Film Board of Canada, in collaboration with Montreal-based musician Jean Derome. It is a bit of a sequel to “Liaisons”, the first movie done under the same conditions, also in 2004…

Master Baffler: How Philip Guston Gave Form to Doubt

“Paul Valéry once said that a bad poem is one that vanishes into meaning,” Philip Guston told an interviewer in 1966, adding, “In a painting in which this is a room, this is a chair, this is a head, the imagery does not exist — it vanishes into recognition…. I want my work to include more.”Excerpt from an excellent article you can read here.…See More

Tremendously enjoyed your Daydream Mechanics V Sketch 3 movie (referenced from http://studioartist.blogspot.com/2007/05/jean-detheux-chronicles-visual-music.html)
as well as your other works.

Jean,

I think the http://studioartist.ning.com/forum/topics/on-artistic-series-ii
thread maxed out.
I personally love reading what you write and the passion and thought you put into it.
Gets me charged up every time.
As a working artist I need to be able to control my medium and expression to make the buck. And my job is also to tell other artists what to do and how... I pretty much live and breath the tried and true - technically and artistically.

But I am also reaching for the "thing" that preceded all the knowledge and technique I am buried under... wether its "me" or other.

Thanks for sharing the vision and the passion!

yes, I do feel "in good hands" given the SA Forum and John's exceptional openness to artistic input.

hello, Jean,

did you ever get my CD called "Being and Nothingness"?

I have made some progress with both Cinema and Studio Artist, but in the latter am still quite amateurish with movies that turn out jerky. So much to learn!

All the best,

Otto

(I moved to Gloucester, MA, the area where the Folly Cove Designers worked between 1938-68, there is rich cultural heritage here!)

thank you for your reply, Jean. For some reason, I did not receive your response earlier this year. I am much looking forward to seeing your new work.

RENDER IMAGE SEQUENCE WITH ALPHA

Hi, we're creating stylized cinematic sequences for AAA games here at Blackbird Interactive and we just bought a few licences of Studio Artist 5 to use in our pipeline, however we have hit a major snag that has stopped us in our tracks: We need to load videos with an alpha channel into Studio Artist 5, run a PAS on each frame, and export each frame into an image with an alpha channel. The closest I can get is to load up the video, and under Canvas / Alpha, turn on Paint Synth Alpha Enable, then…See More
