- Way too much of my Studio Artist use is in Xcode and Metrowerks building and testing it.
However, I do a lot of work with digital graffitti databases as a source for art mapping photo mosaics. I used to do a ton of work using news imagery as source material for painting and custom treatments with the Texture Synthesizer based on the original custom photoshop plug-in called Wack i wrote in the 90's.
I also like to work with MSG Evolver to explore creating procedural abstract artwork. There's a definite knack to how you work the evolution controls to get good results with directed evolution. Hopefully this can be hidden from naive users in the future. I also think we're starting to cross a really interesting threshold in this area as the number of MSG processors increases and the evolution engine gets more sophisticated and i think this part of Studio Artist has a lot of unexplored potential.
I'm also very interested in simulations of traditional lithography and printmaking techniques. What i've come to realize over time is that a lot of these techniques have a particular visual aesthetic appearance that was actually caused by some technical limitation of the reproduction media the original artists were working in and was caused by what they needed to do to get around that limitation. It's a really good example of taking a weakness of a particular technique and turning it into a strength. And you see this all the time in the various printmaking technologies.
And i also create a lot of cover artwork for audio cds using Studio Artist. Supersizer is definitely a lifesaver for this kind of work so i'm a big user of that particular Studio Artist feature.

I had been thinking how interesting it would be to have "look-ahead/behind" based filters, auto-region selection & vector grabbing. It would be similar to the technique used in video compression - calculating and filtering differences in the pixel state for every frame - and then comparing it to preceding and following frames. I'm sure you can imagine one million ways to have fun with this. Then your modular synth would have an envelope follower/multi-band delay! (or something..)
