A Resource for Studio Artist Users
It means you are running out of memory. Usually that's from working with a large canvas size (and perhaps large source image as well). Here's some information on what you can do to reduce memory consumption when working with large canvas sizes.
Thank you John,
Can you also advise me re. what number to put in for "undo buffers?" It seems that the default is set to 5. I have just uninstalled the original StudioArtist and reinstalled it so I'm hoping it will behave better. I did change the option in preference from "memory" to "disk" but it doesn't hold on to it and I had to go back into preferences and reset it. Perhaps now with the reinstalled program this will not be a problem. I believe some of the issues are connected to a total computer crash when I tried to upgrade from Mountain Lion operating system to the latest, YOSEMITE. I did not attempt the upgrade again!
Preference changes aren't saved to disk until you quit the program. So if you changed something and then the program crashed before quitting, then your preference changes would not be saved.
I noticed you put in a tech support request associated with this. You should probably switch to that support ticket for getting help with this. We're been without power here quite frequently for the last 2 days due to a big storm that hit Hawaii, but things are starting to get back to normal, so you should be getting feedback from tech support via your help ticket soon.
I'm up and running since I re-installed the program. I had put in the tech support request as the program would not let me work - kept quitting with "not enough memory" messages etc.Per your suggestion I made the image source smaller, tweeked a few other things and now it's fine. Still curious what number the "undo buffer" should be. Default "5" ?
There is no hard and fast rule about setting the number of undos. They take up memory (much less if using the disk store option, so you definitely want to use that preference option if working with larger canvas sizes). But it's also nice to have multiple undos when working. We make it a preference so that people can adjust it if they start to run into problems with lack of memory when working with large canvas sizes.
