I know rendering a mp4 from Studio Artist can be an intensive process, but I was wondering if there's an advantage in using a format like ProRes over a codec like mp4 or h.264 as a source file loaded into Studio Artist?
I've traditionally rendered original media out to tif image sequences or ProRes movies (especially if I need to work in Final Cut Pro at some point - though I've done this less frequently with the advent of FCP X)

Read more…I was crawling the streets of Matera, Italy today and may have discovered where SA is hiding! (see attached photo). Not meaning to make light of this great, sad mystery. But I just couldn't resist as I try to make sense of what's happening. In general, i don't think the format of the source movie codec is going to matter very much, as far as Studio Artist processing is concerned.
But maybe if you're doing something in your effect processing that really pulls compression artifacts in the source movie frames up into view in the effected output (like a really intensive enhancement algorithm for example), then ProRes might be better?
