  • Yes, there are lots of different ways to simulate liquid paint effects. This has been discussed at various points in time in past forum discussions. I attached on simple WaterDripDown paint preset for you.

Any water paint preset can be made to drip down by adjusting the path angle to be fixed with an appropriate offset. Look at how the WaterDripDown1 paint preset is programmed.

Here's another old paint preset example of an ink that flows i've attached below(Ink That Flows). Use the mouse or pen and work manually with this paint preset to see how it works.

These 2 paint preset examples barely scratch the surface of how you can go about simulating wet paint effects.

There was a discussion on the forum at one point about using movie brushes with paint drip images as an alternative approach to generating splatter effects associated with dripped paint.

  • Thanks. Where can I find more presets which can be down loaded?

    • I don't know if it's what you're looking for, but here is another preset. I used it for these pictures, 1 and 2

      • This effect is magnificent! Thank you so much for sharing Bernard. I have been playing with the editor to figure out how you got it and no way :(  would you mind give me a clue of the main parameters that promote this effect, please? "Brush modulation" and "Particle Paint mode" are the sections that seem to affect most but I can not just completely isolate it. I appreciate it a lot!

        • Thank you Luis.
Hmmm I didn't remember, it was a long time ago. I'll take a look
          • Hi Bernard, I've got enough to isolate the effect of dripping from your preset. The editor memory buttons helped a lot. The parameters that most promote to drip down brushstrokes seem to be:
Path Shape -> Max Path Length - set it to a really high value
Path Angle -> set to "Fixed" and "Angle Offset" set to 90 to make the drippings vertical
Furthermore it is essential to use "Particle Paint" Pen mode and set "Swarming" On and "Distance Option" All. The various parameters "Pen Attract", "Pen Distance" and "Self Attract"
determine under what circumstances do the drippings occur, mainly based on how fast the pointer moves from the last previous stroke away. "Pen Attract" and "Pen Distance" should be high enough for drips not occur continuously.
    • There is a Preset sharing group here on the user forum

  • How do I install these on a Mac?

  • It seems I had a glitch and needed to restart my computer. They installed as expected by clicking on them.

Studio Artist is in Italy!

I was crawling the streets of Matera, Italy today and may have discovered where SA is hiding!  (see attached photo). Not meaning to make light of this great, sad mystery. But I just couldn't resist as I try to make sense of what's happening. Losing my connection to SA, Synthetik and John has been a great sadness... and if real, ends a monumental era in my creative life. love,~Victor

Teenage Tongue Cult

Hi, here is the video I made back in 2010 for my song "Teenage Tongue Cult". I finally found my master folder of image sequence files for it on one of my old hard drives, and since the version I had on my Vimeo was of pretty terrible pixelated low quality visually, I re-did it yesterday. It has extensive use of Studio Artist through the whole thing. I made it by first animating the characters and scenes in Flash, against a mostly kind of muddy green background, a color I knew wasn't being used…
