Please how do you autopaint into a selection using the paint synthesizer?
I tried achieving this by selecting the canvas using the onion skin as guide then autopaint. It is not working. It only works when I manually paint into the selection.
When I click the action button, it autopaints all the image not the selection. I have the mask turned on. Especially on mosaic presets.
Any tips on what am doing wrongly.
Looking forward to your help. Thanks

Ok, most mosaic presets (that use path start regionization internally) are a special case when it comes to selection.
Pre V5.5, the selection buffer was reset to the current region being painted as the mosaic painting proceeded. There are some historical reasons why this was the case. You could use internal selection based parameter settings inside of the paint synthesizer to mask each region being painted. But the side effect of this was that the global selection was overwritten, and external masking did not work for those paint presets.
In V5.5, you can switch this behavior on or off. You do it in the Path Shape control panel.
You use the Region Mask Opt parameter setting to do that. Set it to Use Global if you want to use the current global selection as a mask for the mosaic preset. Set it to Each Region as Mask if you want the old behavior i described above.
There is a new tutorial video at synthetik.com on selection, so you might want to check that out if you aren't familiar with all of the things you can do with selection in Studio Artist.
Here is a tip on selection and masking. You should read the section on Paint Masking Options. There is a workspace setting you can adjust to adjust the behavior of how selection effects painting.
Thanks. But does this mean that I can't achieve it with Version 5? I remember you recommended using Probability in Path Start and path application/Current Selection which has worked for other preset except mosaic presets.
In V5 the selection buffer will always be reset to each individual region as they are painted by the paint synthesizer.
So if you want to externally mask a path start regionization mosaic preset in B5, you can't do it directly just by turning on masking in the workspace.
You could use a hidden layer to store you selection mask, and then mask it after the mosaic effect is run.
You could also use the alpha channel of the layer as a temporary storage area fo your selection mask.
So there are 2 different work around techniques that would work in V5 to do it. In V5.5 you can just do it directly as i described above.
If you have something like a white background, you could use path start inhibitors in Path Start control panel in the paint synthesizer to mask out specific regions. As an alternative to selection masking.
