  • So here's a tip on selection masking.

A super easy way to bring back some of the source area is to use a paint tool that lightly blends back some of the source image.

if you go to the paint synthesizer op mode, in the preset browser, under the Erasers collection, there are some source cloning erasers.

Under the Wacom Speciality collection, there is a 'Clone Source - Source' preset that works well for this kind of thing and is pressure sensitive.

It is super easy to build one yourself from scratch.

Initialize the paint synthesizer using the Edit : Paint Synthesizer : QuickEdit : Initialize menu command.

In Paint fill Setup control panel in the Editor, change Fill From to be Source Image.

In paint Fill Apply control panel, change Composite from Replace to Blend so you can set a low blend.  You can adjust the blend with the Blend % setting. If you want pressure modulation, you can turn that on using the Blend Mod setting.

More elaborate approaches would be to use something like facial features detection to constrain painting to build up more facial detail.  If you look in the Path Start control panel, under Inhibitor, there are some options to do that.

the advantage of constrained painting to add detail is that your painting is going to appear more natural, because it actually is painted.  As opposed to mixing in some of the raw source pixels.  The 2 approaches look very different. Which one makes more sense to you is going to depend on your aesthetic preferences, and what you are trying to achieve in the artwork.

A more interesting variation on the 'blend in some of the source image' approach is to blend in some visual effect rather than the raw source.

A fun way is to use the Simplify IpOp effect.  You mask the areas of the canvas you want to bring back. Soften the edges of the mask so you get a good blend at the edges of the mask.

Then use a low mix setting with masking turned on.

Make sure you have the Simplify Ip Source set to Source Image so the source image is run through the effect.

Min compositing edge effects output into selected areas of the painting would be another approach.

    • Hopefully you can do a video on this also, I'm not finding any of these tools.  I appreciate the great tools in this software, but I'm a little behind on this.  Thanks

  • Following.

Can we have a video tutorial on masking?

    • I noticed this morning we didn't have a current one posted, so i asked them to make a few. They are working on it now.

      • great! thanks!

Interdimensional Coincidence Control

Hi everyone, I am glad the site is still here! Here is a new short video I made. All made in Studio Artist, several separate videos with alpha channels, then combined in layers with the music in Blender. A lot of MSG running through brushes, with several of the brush Path Starts being controlled by the MSG Scan Generator in the Generator part of the Path Start in the Paint Synthesizer. Also some MSG running through a brush, then making a video of that with an alpha channel, then making that a…

Whats going on with this site?

Has anyone else gotten a warning about this site disappearing? An email form just popped up, asking me to contract the owner and leave a message to let them know that they may loose their "network"Did Synthetik forget to pay it's bills, or is something else going on?I think 8 months is more than enough vacation time. Is anyone at Synthetik doing any development work at all?

Having difficulty exporting canvas as image

I'd like to export a canvas as a .tiff/.tif image file to a folder I made on my desktop.I select that from a dropdown menu, I can name the exported file, change the extension, etc, and I press save but nothing happens. It's always worked until now. It seems like a simple task. Any ideas?I'm on Mac OSX 12.6, if that matters, and my system hasn't changed since the last time I was able to export successfully. Thanks
