Hi All

I am interested in recording using the 'assisted drawing' fearture. I come from a Corel Painter background that allows you to load a source image on to the canvas (set to very light opacity - say 5%) - this becomes a good reference to target. Wanted to ask if this application allows putting it on a separate background layer and then run all assited drawing on a second layer - then then to export without the image - such that - when run again - it appears that the drawing is starting from a blank canvas - thanks in advance for any pointers

  • May you need : Ctrl+T
    File Menu-->Canvas-->Onion Skin

    • Excellent - many thanks - like I said - just checking out - while I have your attention - might you point me in the right direction to a turtorial on exporting to video - I suppose I cannot do in demo mode - but this app is looking well worth the investment - thanks Sam

      • There are a ton of tutorial videos here, including how to process a movie file.  Check out the 'automatic rotoscoping, animation, and video effects tutorial video.

        The Studio Artist tips site is here.  Under Movie Processing and Rotoscoping section there are tips on processing movies.

        Basically you either use one of our factory paint action sequence (PASeq) presets, or you can make a custom one of your own.  Then you just run Action : Process with paint action sequence : source to movie menu command.  It will render out the movie frame by frame.

        There are also tips and tutorial videos on making your own PASeqs.

        Getting Started
  • Again thhis is my first look at the app - which is impressive - had a second question that might be obvious to those familiar with SA - but with all the options to edit the presets - is there a return to default ?  - I was playing around with one of the them - and due to the changes I made - the tablet brush - no longer does anything - I feel it is important to understand defaults before I do any further explorations - do not want to mess with things that likely took hours (or years - lol) to tweak - many thanks Synthetik community

    • After manually editing something, if you just load the preset you started with again, it will bring back the parameter settings associated with the preset that are stored on disk.

      There are various ways to initialize different operation modes, like the paint synthesizer or IpOp effects to a default basic configuration.  These are useful to start with a simple configuration if you are manually editing something from scratch.

      And like i said, you can always load in any given preset if you want to start from that known configuration.

      If you run Edit : Paint Synthesizer: QuickEdit : Initialize it will initialize the paint synthesizer to a simple soft tube of raster paint.

      Many Editor panels have an Init button at the bottom, pressing that will initialize the panel.

      • many thanks mate - for all I know you might be John himself - thanks for the presales support - will be getting the full version of SA shortly - great work / killer app  !! - fascinating -

  • You can also load custom images in the onion skin if you want it to be different than the source.

Studio Artist is in Italy!

I was crawling the streets of Matera, Italy today and may have discovered where SA is hiding!  (see attached photo). Not meaning to make light of this great, sad mystery. But I just couldn't resist as I try to make sense of what's happening. Losing my connection to SA, Synthetik and John has been a great sadness... and if real, ends a monumental era in my creative life. love,~Victor
