Make a gap between cells

Hi.

I used a mosaic movie brush preset---- (smooth cellular). and I got the result I wanted:

the image shows irregular "broken mosaic tiles". however I want the resulting cells to be separated by a gap. ( with transparent alpha channel  , or with solid color as second option).

How can I achieve this?

thanks in advance!

  • You can run the mosaic preset twice. First like you did to fill in the cells with a movie brush. Then run it a second time, but modify it so that it paints in the boundary of the cell as a paint path with your solid color ( as opposed to filling the boundary ).

So, you'd change the pen mode to interactive pen (it was probably setup to be region fill as brush for your first path).  Setup a small brush in Brush Source control panel to draw in your gap, and setup the paint color in the source area to be the solid color your want to fill with.

    • Thank you John.

I will give it a try.

so  there is no method to create transparent gaps?

      • You could select the solid color boundary paint, invert the selection, and then run Canvas : Alpha : Set To : Selection menu command. This would set the canvas alpha channel to off in the solid color, and on in the interior cells.

Here's a tip on working with alpha.

Studio Artist is in Italy!

I was crawling the streets of Matera, Italy today and may have discovered where SA is hiding!  (see attached photo). Not meaning to make light of this great, sad mystery. But I just couldn't resist as I try to make sense of what's happening. Losing my connection to SA, Synthetik and John has been a great sadness... and if real, ends a monumental era in my creative life. love,~Victor
