I've got a 300 MB H.264/QT movie loaded as a source and when I click the Play button in the Source window, it does not advance - end and star buttons both work. I have an interactive paint preset loaded Particle Painting) and I am trying to draw on the screen while the movie plays back so that I pick up the advancing frames as my source while I paint. Is this possible? Also, some movie files just don't load - what are the current file/compression format types that SA will load? Windows, internal build 5.5.5.01.

The source area play button is turned off in V5.5. We anticipate that feature coming back online in a future update.
You should be able to use the current frame position controls to get to a specific frame.
The source frame will advance in loop action or when running Animate if you have the appropriate source flag turned on.
File : Source Settings
turn on movie loop action advance
The source movie has never played live while you were manually drawing.
In V5 you could have used the live video background texture and pumped your video footage through that. So you could have built paint presets that accesses the video coloring that way. we turned that off in V5.5 due to apple security theatre garbage. It may come back in a future release.
Old format quicktime movies are not going to work. If the movie plays in the windows media player, then you should be able to access it in V5.5.
If you have old format quicktime movie files, then you would have to work with them in V5, since V5 uses the quicktime api. V5.5 does not use the quicktime api.
i keep my finger on the up and down arrows next to the numbers of frames if i want to go forward or backwards.
