new Look

wow, ok this new look will take a bit of getting familar with. Everything seems to be where it should be, just no neat little bounding boxes. Ok I can deal with that.

How about the rest of you. Thumbs up or down on the new layout? Is the sans serif font easier to read or distracting?

  • Feedback is encouraged. We obviously want it to get better for everyone, not worse.
  • I like it myself.
  • I like the neutral look--easy to read, great font!
  • I'm not sure.  I do like the typeset, much easier to read.  I got used to the color scheme however.  Not so sure I don't like these colors, they're just different...
    • Its been a few days and I'm ready to say I like it.  Much gentler on the eyes and I like being greeted with new videos and photos "above the fold" as opposed to the forum feed, especially on slow forum days.
  • I like this new modern look. Thanks.
  • I like it a lot also. But I wouldn't call it modern. In a way, it feels retro. Serif is usually easier to read. However the overall clean appearance makes this easier to read. I would make the word "Forum" in all caps in the Typewriter font as well as the member name. I would also make the member name 3 or 4 points smaller.
  • Other than the Forum coming in second(under) to the Photos section - the change does no harm. Just another cyber shift that requires a few minutes of relearning.

I don't know if the content buckets like Forum and Photos can be moved around (some settings somewhere) I go to this place for the written content first.

    • The sections can be moved around.

We're trying out having the photos section at the top as an experiment since it's a nice thing for a new users or potential customers to see first, but if it's a usability issue for regular forum members feel free to speak up.

      • I can understand the Photos being attractive. I thought it might have been a thematic shift or emphasis shift - like Myspace suddenly shifting to a music promotion site over social posting ground. Or Facebooks shift to a more visual theme. I keep reading about the next big social network sites being some kind of photo based thing over a text based model. Being a little old school - I picture a forum as a text-as-priority medium with images as "visual aids". As long as I can find the written postings - I am ok with the new look. Its less stodgy.

Studio Artist is in Italy!

I was crawling the streets of Matera, Italy today and may have discovered where SA is hiding!  (see attached photo). Not meaning to make light of this great, sad mystery. But I just couldn't resist as I try to make sense of what's happening. Losing my connection to SA, Synthetik and John has been a great sadness... and if real, ends a monumental era in my creative life. love,~Victor
