Hi, Everyone-

I just posted a Studio Artist NFT. And by "Studio Artist NFT," I literally mean Studio Artist NFT!

Studio Artist 5.5 by Synthetik - First Screenshot "In The Wild"

I priced it at 1 tez, a little under 7 USD right now. Own a piece of Studio Artist History!

Surely some day this will take on Beeple-like proportions!

All proceeds from this sale will be donated to the Maui Huliau Foundation.

You need to be a member of Studio Artist to add comments!

  • I looked into NFT...and from what I can find it uses a massive amount of energy and is horrible for the environment. After the research it was a hard no for me to have anything to do with NFT's.

    • Did you read about sustainability of Tezos, the cryptocurrency I used for my NFT?

In general the environmental impact of cryptocurrency will be greatly reduced, as it moves from proof-of-work to proof-of-stake. There are already many proof-of-stake blockchains out there that consumer very little energy, and Ethereum is moving to proof-of-work next year. And there are many approaches to mitigating Ethereum's energy consumption, such as side-chains and rollups. Dapp developers are highly motivated to develop these systems because otherwise, using the blockchain is cost prohibitive.

For example, the cost of minting an NFT on Ethereum was around 200 USD a few days ago. Outrageous and cost prohibitive, especially if you want to sell a digital good for 7 USD (like I did).

So, the cryptocurrency industry is highly motivated to find both computationally efficient methods and utilize renewable energy. Energy from the sun is clean and "free." Many cryptocurrency datacenters use renewable energy, because ~they're trying to make money~. The cost of power significantly cuts into their profits. So many of them use renewable and sustainable energy sources to run their computers.

And, not to get into "whataboutism," but have you ever seen what a gold mine does to the environment?

All that said, I used Tezos, not bitcoin for this very reason. It's six to seven orders of magnitude more energy efficient than bitcoin.

    • I myself have the same reaction here. Initially, I got a bit hyped and put it all in into Etherium. But over time I learned about the environmental harm it may be causing. I understand that both groups here are relying on anything from anecdotal to actual data but it's overall a real mess trying to untangle the web of potential over-reaction to objective truth. Therefore, it's safer for me to assume that proof of work-based networks are likely to be far energy-inefficient, hence likely to be contributing to CO2 emissions.

However, given this point, I would also like to mention that we do have to stay objective. It would be unfair to judge the entirety of crypto-currencies based on a few self-researched articles by experts and non-experts who all could be biased in their research. There's a lot of super heated debate between factions but these debates tend to be rather emotionally driven than objective which doesn't help artists, developers, and researchers develop better protocols and strategies for the future.

In terms of my experience I've switched over to using Hicetnunc like John Holland and I've found it to be quite pleasant. Hicetnunc uses tezos, a proof of stake driven currency that's far far far more energy-efficient, much faster, and more affordable. In fact, the recent Florance update to the tezos network effectively made minting/swapping prices go down from $1 to (something like) 30cents. The optimizations are a key strategy in making these networks energy-efficient and reliable, hence giving us a bit of a breather when it comes to the whole energy problem. The tezos network updates every 3 months or so providing improvements and stability to the network whereas well-established major players tend to lag behind when it comes to updates.

I understand that there are many many discussions that can happen based on the text above and I may have said something wrong along the lines too. Take it with much caution as you would read on any discussions for or against cryptocurrencies. I'm just an artist taking the time to hopefully give you another perspective.

As for me, Hicetnunc is a vibrant, wonderful community of artists and collectors interested in new technologies, committed to making art the center of attention and investment. Hicetnunc is opensource, community-driven, and incredibly welcoming. If you do ever find interest, I wouldn't mind helping you out. But that's a choice for you to make. :)

      • Not only that, but the rollups like Immutable on Ethereum seem very promising.

that said, I prefer HEN/Tezos, myself.

On the closure of the User Forum : An open letter to John Dalton

Hi John I have no idea what you are going through. However the impact you have made not to continue with the user forum and your desire keep it as a permanent feature as promised in the past is a big shock. It also betrays the faith and love we have shown in you and Studio Artist.  Bluntly spoken, it sucks. That you have chosen to follow this direction in silence, allowing no compassion or understanding on our part is a betrayal of the deepest level. What is going on? This is not the John…

Interdimensional Coincidence Control

Hi everyone, I am glad the site is still here! Here is a new short video I made. All made in Studio Artist, several separate videos with alpha channels, then combined in layers with the music in Blender. A lot of MSG running through brushes, with several of the brush Path Starts being controlled by the MSG Scan Generator in the Generator part of the Path Start in the Paint Synthesizer. Also some MSG running through a brush, then making a video of that with an alpha channel, then making that a…

Whats going on with this site?

Has anyone else gotten a warning about this site disappearing? An email form just popped up, asking me to contract the owner and leave a message to let them know that they may loose their "network"Did Synthetik forget to pay it's bills, or is something else going on?I think 8 months is more than enough vacation time. Is anyone at Synthetik doing any development work at all?
