Paint Synthesizer Keyframe question

I'm encountering some unexpected behavior in the PASeq when I keyframe a paint preset and I'd like to get some insight from you all if you have any.

I'm working only with two keyframes in the one step of the PASeq.  The brush has been reinitialized using the macros and its been set to the 'auto-regionize loose' setting.  From there I changed the path start generator to Adaptive Block Regionize DM and the pen mode to auto region fill as brush with a selection override generator.

That brush is the first keyframe.

The second keyframe differs only in the type of generator for the auto region fill as brush.  Instead of the stylized selection override generator, its a stylized simplified lite generator.

The strangeness occurs when I play back the PASeq.  The first frame paints as expected.  The second frame jumps to a Path Start Grid Scan generator and that pattern continues through to frame eight, where the generator then becomes a screen partition which holds for a couple of frames and then moves on to  region draw generator, horiz/vert bars and finally stylized simplified lite.

What gives?  In stepping through the generator options, it looks like SA4 progressed through all of the generator types between selection override and stylized simplified lite rather than working between those two specific and unique generator types.  I was hoping to get some type of morphing/mingling of the two brushes (or at the very least a straight jump from one brush to the other) like you might see with MSG PASeqs created from memory buttons.

  • The keyframe interpolation works like a parameter morph as opposed to a parameter mingle. A 'mingle' only uses specific parameter values from the first or second keyframe. A 'morph' generates interpolated values, so they will vary continuously between the 2 endpoint positions.

The keyframe buttons in the paint synthesizer evolution help page let you work with either option. The keyframe interpolation in the PASeq timeline only works like a parameter morph. You can use the PASeq Interpolation Type preference option to switch between linear or ease in/ease out nonlinear interpolation, but it's still a continuous transformation between the 2 endpoint values.

So if you have 2 different popup values that you keyframe interpolate, the popup will move through all of the parameter settings between the 2 values as the interpolation proceeds between the 2 keyframes.

If you want a straight jump, put the keyframes right next to each other on adjacent frame times.
    • So is it merely the organization of the group of popup values hat determines the interpolation. So in my case, if I wanted to avoid some of the parameter settings in between like Path Start Grid Scan, it sounds like I basically am limited to keyframing around it. Is that correct?
      • Yes. You could setup your initial keyframes, and then insert 2 additional ones in the middle that override the initial popup menu interpolation to jump between your start and end values. So that way you'd get the smooth interpolation you want for your other parameter values while having a fixed jump at some point between the 2 path start generator settings.

On the closure of the User Forum : An open letter to John Dalton

Hi John I have no idea what you are going through. However the impact you have made not to continue with the user forum and your desire keep it as a permanent feature as promised in the past is a big shock. It also betrays the faith and love we have shown in you and Studio Artist.  Bluntly spoken, it sucks. That you have chosen to follow this direction in silence, allowing no compassion or understanding on our part is a betrayal of the deepest level. What is going on? This is not the John…

Interdimensional Coincidence Control

Hi everyone, I am glad the site is still here! Here is a new short video I made. All made in Studio Artist, several separate videos with alpha channels, then combined in layers with the music in Blender. A lot of MSG running through brushes, with several of the brush Path Starts being controlled by the MSG Scan Generator in the Generator part of the Path Start in the Paint Synthesizer. Also some MSG running through a brush, then making a video of that with an alpha channel, then making that a…

Whats going on with this site?

Has anyone else gotten a warning about this site disappearing? An email form just popped up, asking me to contract the owner and leave a message to let them know that they may loose their "network"Did Synthetik forget to pay it's bills, or is something else going on?I think 8 months is more than enough vacation time. Is anyone at Synthetik doing any development work at all?
