PHOTO MOSAICS

Hi John,

Its been a while. Well i just saw a recent post  by a user who has been using the background texture for photo mosaics. I tried to use it as well and its really cool. But wanted to know the difference between the global, path and local options under the tracking parameter of the background texture. Would be grateful also if you could expound on how the orient mod and the tracking parameters work together.

  • Hi John

Please i really need this. A user on the forum discussed this issue but  no reply. Would be very grateful if you could help.

  • The background texture can be used in different ways within the paint synthesizer. You might want to use it to generate a paper or canvas texture. In that case, you would want it to be global to the canvas. So the orientation is never being modulated locally.

Other times you might want to use the background texture to generate a brush texture associated with a painted path. So then, you'd want the orientation to track the path orientation. So you perceive the generated texture as a part of the laid down path of paint. Like the brush moving across the canvas generated it.

Other times you might want to modulate the background texture locally so that the orientation is always changing. Perhaps randomly.

The controls you mentioned let you select between the 3 orientation modulation options discussed above. They mirror similar controls in the procedural brush option in the Brush Type control panel.

I'm assuming that if you want to use BK Texture to generate photo mosaic effects, then you would probably want global orientation.

    • Hi John,

Please thanks for the response, but you did not explain the orient mod parameter. Would really want to know if the background texture (brush) can be setup to orient according to source color orientation/gradient.

      • Src Orient is one of the options in the Orient Mod popup menu in the Background Texture control panel. So selecting that will modulate the background texture orientation based on the source orientation. Src Hue is also an option if you want to modulate it based on hue. The Orientation offset will be added to whatever you select for Orient Mod.

Interdimensional Coincidence Control

Hi everyone, I am glad the site is still here! Here is a new short video I made. All made in Studio Artist, several separate videos with alpha channels, then combined in layers with the music in Blender. A lot of MSG running through brushes, with several of the brush Path Starts being controlled by the MSG Scan Generator in the Generator part of the Path Start in the Paint Synthesizer. Also some MSG running through a brush, then making a video of that with an alpha channel, then making that a…

Whats going on with this site?

Has anyone else gotten a warning about this site disappearing? An email form just popped up, asking me to contract the owner and leave a message to let them know that they may loose their "network"Did Synthetik forget to pay it's bills, or is something else going on?I think 8 months is more than enough vacation time. Is anyone at Synthetik doing any development work at all?

Having difficulty exporting canvas as image

I'd like to export a canvas as a .tiff/.tif image file to a folder I made on my desktop.I select that from a dropdown menu, I can name the exported file, change the extension, etc, and I press save but nothing happens. It's always worked until now. It seems like a simple task. Any ideas?I'm on Mac OSX 12.6, if that matters, and my system hasn't changed since the last time I was able to export successfully. Thanks
