  • What kind of Files. If your talking Jpegs or image files then you don't. If your taking DVD movie or other protected files then yes.
  • i mean video files, do you know of any software you could recommend?
    • If they are your own videos then iMovie that comes with your Mac should do or get Quicktime Pro. Also Toast 10 is very good. http://www.roxio.com/ If they are protected Movies then you will also need something like Mac the ripper http://www.mrbass.org/mac/dvd/mactheripper/ to decode them.
      • they are my movies. do i open the dvd in iMovie or qt pro instead of it automatically opening with dvd player?
  • Not sure I understand the question properly, but if you are talking about capturing videos as they are playing from DVDs, I have been using Snapz Pro, but as I needed yet another license and that thing, with video capture, isn't cheap, I looked for alternatives and discovered "Screenium," and like it a lot.
    • what i am trying to say is i burned some of my videos to dvds (in case i have trouble with one of these hard drives down the line) and was wondering if i can save them to my hard disk as mov. files somehow. does that make sense now?!
      • I'm pretty sure you can just need to drag them into your movies file on your hard drive Donna. If you can read the DVD you should be able to read the files on your HD. Either that or open the Video on your computer then Save As to your Movie File on your HD.
      • Are those DVDs "DVD Data," or "DVD Video?"
If DVD Data, yes, you can simpl;y drag and drop, if DVD Video, you're stuck with a "Video_TS" folder, with files QuickTime Pro may or may not play properly.
If that's the case, you can also look at "DVDxDV Pro". It works very well, converting those files (back) to DV or other QT compatible formats.
        • i meant dvd video and yes, i do have those video ts files i didn't know what to do with. thanks for your help. technology tortures me a bit.
          • Donna,
I just made a very quick test, and it looks like the excellent (and free) MPEG Streamclip can open the files contained in a Video_TS folder and convert/export them to QuickTime!
You may need the MPEG-2 playback component from Apple to make that work.
            Well worth a look.
            Good luck.

Studio Artist is in Italy!

I was crawling the streets of Matera, Italy today and may have discovered where SA is hiding!  (see attached photo). Not meaning to make light of this great, sad mystery. But I just couldn't resist as I try to make sense of what's happening. Losing my connection to SA, Synthetik and John has been a great sadness... and if real, ends a monumental era in my creative life. love,~Victor

Teenage Tongue Cult

Hi, here is the video I made back in 2010 for my song "Teenage Tongue Cult". I finally found my master folder of image sequence files for it on one of my old hard drives, and since the version I had on my Vimeo was of pretty terrible pixelated low quality visually, I re-did it yesterday. It has extensive use of Studio Artist through the whole thing. I made it by first animating the characters and scenes in Flash, against a mostly kind of muddy green background, a color I knew wasn't being used…
