I'm starting to feel there's a need to draw a distinction between 'photo mosaic' effects vs 'photo collage' effects. Both kinds of effects can be done automatically using movie brushes in Studio Artist. This experiment would fall into the photo collage category. I used the paint synthesizer and path start regionization to create this effect, but you could also use the vectorizer to drive path start regionization for more shape generation variety.

  • I like where these are going
  • Wow, this is amazing, just love it!! Is there a tutorial anywhere that shows how to create a photo collage in SA like you did here? How do you get different source photos all in the same canvas? I know you mentioned using the paint synthesizer and path start regionization, but when you have a moment, could you elaborate a little on how to accomplish this? Thanks!
  • The whole process to build a photo collage effect like this is fully automatic, and involves the use of a movie brush in the studio artist paint synthesizer. The movie file used as the movie brush contains the individual images used to automatically build the photo collage.

I'm going to point you at a new forum topic i just started on 'making getting started with photo mosaic effects easier'. Read thought that, check out some of the additional online information links provided in that discussion, and then feel free to comment on any topics you are having trouble understanding or want more information on.

  • Thanks so much, John. I will do some reading and trying it out, that's truly amazing!
