Red Bus

How did I do RED BUS?Here's an attempt to get close to what I did, although I haven't yet learned how to save exactly how I did what. I CAN tell you what I used, but can't tell you how I blended the layers.LAYER 1Image OperationsDefault/Source AbstractionBorder Hull1LAYER 2Default/Effects - ExtremeExtreme Diffusor1I then experimented with different blending modes and layer opacities until I got what you see. I hope this gets you close with your images.

Nano World Looks like MSG

Wired has an article with a bunch of photos of nano-scale objects. In looking at them i was struck at how similar they look to MSG presets. I think you could duplicate the look of a lot of these real world photos taken with various nano-scale imaging techniques by building MSG presets. You might also conjecture that there are some similarities between the mathematics of what is really going on in the physics to create these nano-scale objects and what is happening in the algorithms in the MSG presets that would duplicate their appearance.

Nice short article on neural basis of some patterns

There's a nice short article by Oliver Sacks in the New York Times today on the neural basis of some kinds of patterns. I've read a lot of other studies that delve into the correlation between the visual structure of various hallucinatory imagery and the actual structure of neurons in area V1 of the visual cortex of the brain. Area V1 is the first of many areas of the brain that act as visual processing modules. V1 is kind of like a frame buffer of the rest of the visual system if you want to think in computer terms. It's interesting to study these kinds of correlations between various components that make up the sub structure of art and the actual neural constructs that sense them. You can look at various components of artistic representation like color, line and form, texture, etc and find specific modules in the visual system that act to sense these components. This article is interesting because it's delving into the actual nature of repetitive patterns used in visual art and tying them to similar patterns perceived by people who suffer migraine headaches.

Michael Wright's Virtual World Project

I've been fascinated with Studio Artist user Michael Wright's work with the virtual world Second LIfe since i was first exposed to it at Siggraph this summer. Michael had a virtual Studio Artist gallery space in virtual life at that time he was showing off at Siggraph in Guerilla Studio. Michael posted some more information on the evolution of this project here. Here's a brief description of what MIchael is up to these days. Check out the link above for more information on the project. Otis College of Art and Design associate professor Michael Wright took three Classes of Otis digital sophomore students into the virtual world of “Second Life” where they developed and created content based on a class-developed theme. The project, which was created on the Otis Island in Second Life, required team building, out of the box creative thinking, introducing students to working with 3d & 2d virtual tools, working with a budget (3000 lindens per class), and working with a limited amount of building blocks (3100 primitives per class). Each team/class developed a production pipeline and a theme for there area. Three hours of in-class time and 10 hours of outside of class time were devoted to this project. None of the 55 students had second life experience. They were required to learn perpriatory software to engage in the process. The process required students to create and design their own personal avatar. After creating the avatar each had to manage to get to Otis Island at an assigned time. At the island they were given brief introduction to movement, flying and building. The production pipeline began with brainstorming sessions. Once the themes were established the teams went to work creating content for their individual areas. The themes developed were “Heaven and Hell”, “Pirates and Atlantis” and “Lost World and Mythology”. The results of this project can be viewed in world, Second Life, at the Otis Island (128,128,0) for the next month.

Piggy Particles

Hi, here is a new video, lots of MSG (background layer) and MSG generation path starts along with Time Particles in the paint synth, the "Piggy" figure I made in ZBrush and then animated in Blender, with embedded alpha channel, then took into Studio Artist and made into several different kinds of Movie Brushes. Several layers composited together in Blender. Music made with Bespoke Synth and my Shenai. If anyone has any questions about how it was done I'd be happy to explain more.…

Thor Johnson commented on Thor Johnson’s status
"To clarify, I did not make this using 3 layers by using the Layers window in Studio Artist, each layer was processed seperately and then put together and exported as a movie in Blender."
