a bit further on Lucas' comment, one advantage of using the Fixed Image ImOp is that you can adjust both the strength and method of combination. If you just wanted to add a little detail an edge1 composite rather than a replace might be just the ticket.
Not to mention what color space you are working in &c. Plus, nice thing about using the IpOp is that when complete if you think you need another SA effect, say a light sketch outline, you don't need to switch back to another program.

FYI, the "Fixed Image" IpOp would be a means of combining the exact source image with a SA paint present all within SA.

I presumed that such a function was available - thanks for highlighting it for me. This I think I will use fairly often. Will give it a go.
