Dave Buckle's paintPaseq and a variety of others use a gradient lighting im op followed by an image compressor to create a "raised" texture then blend it back into the image. It works great, but because the compression blend is to the original layer it is a "destructive" blend.Another method is to use 2 layers and blend the layers. A variation on this is what was done for this image. The first layer is processed with brushes to create "texture" then it is lifted to a "raised" profile with the gradient lighting. A second layer is brought in. This layer is displacement mapped by the first layer.now you have a image with 2 layers and you can blend them in all the different composite possibilities SA offers, to get just the effect you want. I find Max, edge 1 and edge2 particularly interesting. Multi3 is fairly effective on darker images.

  • I am attaching the PASeq. In it there are several different displacements. Try different experiments with some on and some off. The last smooth op is also something that can be used or not. Finally the particular gradient lighting used here could be changed for a different raised effect before the displacement.

When the pas is finish running you will have 2 layers.. you have to manually set the composite, try max 80 on the second layer as a start. 2layerdisplaceblendMax80-.zip
