Doodling with various Paint Synth presets from the factory set (SA v5.5.5 - _Manual Painting - Use Pen or Mouse) - using a source image similar to the one in the link below.
Many of the presets sample the source image color and some resample whatever color the brush passes over. The raggedy lines are from some in the set: Sketch - Vector - Inks - Pens - Crowquill - More
The variety of colors comes thru with the strokes.
