  • Love your stuff, Philip.  You seem to be picking this up quicker than me!  What part of the manual has helped you?

  • I haven't been using SA4 for long, but I do have an extensive history as a graphics professional, both digital and conventional, so I would probably find using a painting program easier than others.

As a new user of SA4 the user guide is not a manual you can read and expect to learn much apart from the interface and the basics for producing auto painting.

It would be nice if there were more video tutorials, specifically directed for the new user, that focused on preset editing with visual examples of what effect parameter editing has.

I concentrated on creating a specific loose style of a painting simulating oil or acrylic paint and chose a few presets which I could edit to achieve the effect I wanted. I will move on to other styles later.

Preset editing, in my opinion, is the key to creating images that I want to produce as opposed to what SA4 can produce. The more I play around with preset editing the more I understand the parameter descriptions in the manual. I have a long way to go, but the preset editing chapters in the manual are making more sense to me the more I practice.

    Good luck

  • Philip, i'll get one of our staff to email you some download links for the 3.5 video tutorial set. the interface changed somewhat from version 3.5 to version 4, but all of the old paint synthesizer controls are still there. so the tutorial disc 3 video tutorials, which run though the individual paint synthesizer control panels might be useful for you to watch

The studio artist effects blog contains a lot of information on preset editing. Presented in the context of individual effect or paint projects. As opposed to the user guide, which is really a technical reference.

The studio artist tips guide is also available as an online reference.

If you have specific questions on any paint synthesizer control panel parameters, or questions about how to edit something to create a certain style of artistic look, feel free to ask in the forum discussion section.

  • You're up early for a Sunday morning!

I look forward to those - Thanks

  • Hi Philip..I love what you did.  I am just starting to use SA and, if it's not too much work, would appreciate knowing what steps you took to arrive at your final picture.  Thanks Mary

  • Very wonderful Philip!
