We've recently become aware of a bug in OSX that affects all applications written using apple's carbon apis on intel macs. The bug will only manefest itself if you have multiple hard discs with the same name. We're seeing this problem on a dual quad core intel powermac here if you have 2 internal hard discs with the same name (which is what apple ships to you if you order a second internal drive, both will be named Macintosh HD). When you try to use a file dialog, it will come up in Documents as opposed to where it should be coming up in the file system and then if you mouse down in the popup at the top of the file dialog the application crashes. This can affect Studio Artist and MSG Evolver as well as any other application you have that are based on apple's Carbon apis. You can still use the file dialog by using the controls on the left side, it's just the popup at the top that crashes. The easy way to fix this is just to rename one of the internal hard discs so that it has a different name from the first hard disc. As long as your hard discs have different names you will not experience this problem. This is an apple bug, not a studioa rtist or msg evolver bug. We're seeing it in osx 10.4.9 here.

    • Apple Computer sends you a machine from the factory this way if you order it with 2 internal hard discs. That's how we discovered it, we took a brand new machine configured with with 2 internal hard discs out of the box, installed studio artist on it, and immediately found the problem.

I seem to remember we tested it on 10.4.10 and it was the same.
