The General preferences tab contains preference settings related to the behavior of the program's undo functionality as well as preferences associated with the interface display options and the default canvas sizing. Here's a tip that covers some of the full screen display preference options.

You can set the # of undo steps available via the Edit : Undo menu. Each undo step can take up quite  a bit of memory if you are working with large canvas sizes. Undo Buffers can be stored in memory or on disk. Memory Undo Store is faster, but can use up available working memory quickly if you are working with large canvas sizes. Disk Undo store stores undo buffers on disk, which will run a little slower but uses up less working memory.
