Modulating characteristics of a brush stroke like the path size, path displacement, and brush size is a great way to enhance a simple paint preset by building complexity in the resulting painting.

I used inverse texture modulation for path length, random displacement, and brush size. So you get a more defined tight stroke at the edges of the source image and a more randomized larger stroke in flat areas of the image. You could do this using multiple passes, but using the modulation i was able to do the entire painting using one rectangular grid scan in path start.
