  • John,
I really like the painterly effect of this.
any chance of sharing the presets
  • The PASeq preset is part of the version 4 factory presets we're working on, so it will be available. It wouldn't open in version 3.5 since you can move forward with preset version numbers but not backwards.

I worked off of the re-init paint synth macro setting to edit the 3 paint steps, so the paint steps are actually pretty simple. For the first 2 paint steps, the path start is setup for Texture Probability, they are anti-aliased, and the second has a smaller brush size than the first. the third step is the flat paint macro init setting with local color masking turned on in paint fill apply control panel, which gives hard edges and preserves the feature details of the source image. The smart blur ip op is used to soften up the hard masked edges. A slight fade to white is used at the beginning to slightly fade the previous frame, and the texture synth is used to soften the previous frame image before overpainting on top. The image compressor is used very slightly to punch up the output a little at the end of the PASeq.

What really makes the painterly feel work is the generative process created by the recursive interaction of all the steps over multiple passes of the PASeq. So if you were just working on a static image you'd run the PASeq multiple times to generate the final image, or repeat all the steps multiple times in a single PASeq.
  • thanks
i dont know what it is, but this image reminds me of a lot of paintings I know and like, amazing really what a random frame can conjure up...
