So my little excursion into movie making from gallery show grab output convinced me that we needed to beef up the Transition Context feature in Paint Action Sequences. Hence my side diversion yesterday that yielded some fruit.
The image above was generated using the new Fracture option for Transition Contexts.
So what is going on here.
The Transition Context is working with a series of keyframes that are anchored to images in a folder on your hard disk. At any point on the timeline, it's trying to interpolate between the previous keyframe (to it's current frame time) and the next upcoming keyframe.
So here's a quick example.
Here's the previous keyframe
Here's the next keyframe
Normally at the keyframe times, you get the keyframe as output. At frame times in between, you get some kind of interpolating transition effect.
Let's look at some different transitions half way between the 2 keyframes.
So you can select a fade.
You can select Alg1
Here's Alg1 with a more extreme setting
Here's Fracture
I'm still working to get the 'Flow' option going. Not sure if that will make the release or pop up later, but there are lot's of new things we can do with Transition Contexts.
One thing that did make it in there is something pretty wild west.
Suppose you want to adjustively untether the transition from the end keyframe.
And at the same time, completely untether it from the start keyframe. Let's anchor the start to whatever is currently in the canvas. So now we have a new generative process that can create all kinds of evolving abstract imagery. Influenced by your subsequent keyframes (you can adjust how much with a MixEnd slider).
Here's one example of some output working with this.
Note the rad fractal texturing i created by working this way manually punching keyframes to get here.
Here's another example of this where i'm essentially creating a reaction-diffusion style dynamic texture.
I added some additional action steps to the PASeq to get it to do this.
This is a good example of the kind of things you can also do in Gallery Show. So when i talk about 'cooking' the image in gallery show, this is one example of this kind of thing. Except i'm not doing it in gallery show here, i'm just doing it working in the PASeq Timeline with a Transition Context and some additional Gradient Lighting, Edge Boost, and Adaptive Contrast Boost.
Pretty slick. All new in Studio Artist V5.5.
