  • THis is really nice. Rich and  painterly

  • One really useful gallery show feature is to work with techniques that are based on current search results.  So you can do thinks like search in the paint synthesize preset browser for 'oil paint', or 'tube paint', or 'watercolor'. So then each gallery show cycle it can grab a new randomly selected paint preset from the search tag(s) you are using.

As opposed to just randomly selecting any paint preset in your entire preset collection.

There are various auto-edit options for paint you can turn on, so it might be randomly selecting different oil paint preset, but then intelligently modifying them based on the particular GS paint transform options you have turned on.

This is just one simple example of how you can tailor the design of what gallery show is doing.  So you are building a custom algorithmic paint strategy within gallery show.  You then let gallery show run your custom paint strategy, and grab any painted canvas output you like as it's happening.

You can also dump everything out into an open stream if you want to.  I'm enjoying using the Grab button instead, since everything i saved is a keeper in that situation (not usually true when dumping everything out).

Like any kind of randomizing art generation process, you usually generate a lot of crap in addition to those magical keeper images.

  • Whats great is to be able to take a direction for the randomness. That is helpful...Yes magic requires work too...there are really no shortcuts. To have an eye and perceive the needle in the haystack is important.
  • I have recently started blending by creating masks, feathering edges for softness between certain areas and protecting other areas. However in gallery show it wipes out the mask. Will there be an option to keep the mask?
  • Other thoughts...I am looking at woodcuts and linoleum cuts and will soon be putting together ideas for u...It would be nice to be able to adjust the stroke that is cut(drawn) by width, length sharpness if ends, diagonal horizontal and vertical...
  • Well, gallery show has a whole section for auto-generating selection masks on the fly for each gallery show cycle. So i go that route as opposed to manually setting up a selection mask.

I typically use random indexing of the source images it is using for each cycle.  So a new random source image for each GS processing cycle. So a manual fixed selection mask probably would not make much sense in that scenario.

If you turned off anything in GS that could affect the current selection mask, it would probably stay there.  So then if you ran GS with the main Mask check box turned on, it would mask the GS output i think based on that manual selection mask.  I seem to remember using that approach when i wanted a temporal effect i was generating in GS using a folder of images (rather than a movie) to mask in a specific area of the canvas i manually selected.

I'll verify that when i get a chance.  If it doesn't work for some reason, i can look at how to give you what you want here.
