  • Nice John.

Is this picture build from scratch, with basic processors ?

    Thanks.

  • I was using Inspire, and then some swap evolution based off of something that came up in inspire. So i generated it via directed evolution. The sort of underlying processor chain template that Inspire worked off of was from something i hand constructed as a preset at some point.

I think it's based on stacked 3C SpiralLateral CP processors. By stacked i mean that you use several of them, each drawing on top of the output of the previous one.

  • OK thanks !

I suppose it's, for an MSG newbie, not so easy to begin from scratch. Because, you must configure it : input, output.

I'll look your different tips. As you said, it's better to use "inspire" mode. But I also like to understand how it works.

  • This effects blog post discusses the idea of stacking processors that generate shapes. You want the shapes they are generating to not fill the entire canvas, otherwise you would only see the output of the last stacked processor. This photo post was generated using processors that generate full color shapes, so they use 3C processors with 3 image stream inputs and outputs for the color input and output. The shape the processor generates is just overlaid on top of what is already in the 3 color image streams. That's why you start with something like a SetToValue processor to initially setup the image stream you will be stacking in to some default flat color.

So the effect generated above is really as simple as what is in the effects blog post, but using 3C SpiralLateral1 CP processors. And skipping the last ForceColormap processor used in the effects blog post, since 3C SpiralLateral1 CP processors output full color based on a color palette input stream.

  • Here's a link to a MSG preset that shows off 3 stacked 3C SpiralLateral1 CP processors. It isn't the exact procedural image show above, but would be a good starting point for Mutate or Swap evolution in the Evolution Editor. And you can look at the IO connections in the MSG Advanced Editor to understand how it works.

  • Turns out i did save the original MSG preset used to generate the image shown above. You can download it here.
