  • I like the fact that only the overlaid figures have cast shadow, was this intentional ?

  • Yes. After you brought up shadow lighting in some of your posts, i went through some of the MSG processors that generate random vector shapes and added integrated shadow lighting options to them.

When i ran the directed evolution session that generated this, i manually turned on those shadow options and then locked those parameters. So then when you mutate or evolve new MSG presets in the Evolution Editor, those locked parameters stay turned on.

  • That is really cool, so the Evolution Editor generates automatically the shadow, (if locked on), when he uses some "shadowed" processors.

And that  gave your result, because only a kind of processor was switched "shadow on".

If you run the cast shadow effect after the MSG preset, every form is affected by shadow.

And the Evolution Editor can not unlock this option, and also for the other processors ?

    Didn't know that !

  • I prefer the look of the Evolution Editor generated pictures with a cast shadow "touch".

It gives another dimension to them. And if the background is not affected, it's really cool !

Before this one, and the others on your blog, I didn't really appreciate the EE random generated pictures...

  • The magic of directed evolution is that you are able to create things that you would never be able to manually program (or would never even occur to you to do). It's a way to generate a large amount of underlying complexity in a manageable way.

  • Yes that is sure ! That is magic.

I meaned that the pictures are a little "flat", but it's only my opinion :-)

It looks really different with cast shadow.

I once made an experience. I wanted to "influence" the Inspire mode. So I took away all the MSG factory presets and put only the presets that I created and some of yours, in the factory folders.

The Inspire mode gave really good and different results !

  • We should probably provide an option to run inspire on just the current preset category or collection folder. You are right, what it's working off of will affect the results.

  • John I have been looking through the msgs and the process source library but can't replicate how you created this. would you be able to provide a little more detail as I would like to experiment with it.
