  • Are you asking about a way for the tiles to keep the aspect ratio of the original images you used in the movie brush? Are they all the same aspect ratio, or are the individual images different?

  • Yes,they have the same aspect ratio, i've created my video brush with SA, same format and original colors, but in every mosaic i do, sa change the tiles for creating my subjects, create a light or dark square tile to render images.
I don't know if it's clear my problem for you..
  • It's all a function of how the paint synthesizer is programmed to create the mosaic effect. Some settings will modify the aspect ratio of the images in the movie brush, since it's trying to resize them to fit features in the source image. So the path start regionize mosaic presets usually do that.

However, if you use paint presets that tile by laying down single brush nibs, that approach can preserve the aspect ratio of the movie brush images.

The path start regionize presets typically are using the region fill as brush pen mode. With this pen mode, the paint path defines a region that is then treated like a temporary source brush nib and filled in.

The alternative approach i mentioned about tiling using a single brush nibs would be using something like interactive pen mode, with the maximum path length set to 1. So that for each paint stroke, only a single brush nib is painted.

The same things is true about the coloring of the movie brush images. You can build the preset so that it just places the small movie brush image without modifying it in any way other than resizing. Or you can build a paint preset that modifies the coloring of each little image in some way, typically to better reproduce the larger source image. The recoloring is usually done using the Brush Load features in the paint synthesizer.

There are a lot of old effects blog posts that talk about different ways to build photo mosaic effect.

Here's an old post that talks about the recoloization i mentioned above.

And here's a link to differentposts that discuss effect syou can generate using movie brushes.

In one of your Fontings posts, you mentioned you had asked me a question about mosaics a few days ago. I'm sorry if i missed that. If you want to ask again, i can try and answer it.

Questions about mosaic effects come up a lot, so i should probably put a new tutorial together that talks about the different approaches one can use.

  • Dear John,

I thank you so much for you time and your reply.

You're very exhaustive in your explanation and for sure I need to practice without ask too much ;-)

In Fontings posts I've wrote that just to communicate that I've tryed to ask at Big Master without too much expectations because I know the "Hard Work" of programmers, I work with some of them in my Agency BUT ... I didn't mean anything of negative or delay about your reply timing ;-)

I'm proud to talk with the Master Jedy of this Fantastic Software!

    Compliments for this Great Job!!!

Maybe you just need a good new graphic and professional design for this forum?! hehehehe

    with my pleasure,

    Simone
