Just wanted to point out that you can use the paint synthesizer to create all kinds of halftone dot patterns and associated halftoning effect. Setup the Max Path length in Path Shape to be 1, so you only paint single brush nibs for each start point. You can use Brush Modulation to modulate the size and orientation of the dot shape. You can use Nib Masking in the Paint Fill Apply control panel if you want partial dotting.
I just added Bus1 modulation to the orientation modulation options in the brush modulation control panel. That's what you would want for the rotation pattern above.

I just added Bus1 modulation to the orientation modulation options in the brush modulation control panel. That's what you would want for the rotation pattern above.
Set Layer 2 to a sphere using the Sphere Multiply ip op.
Then use Bus1 modulation to modulate the brush orientation, where Bus1 is set to use layer.
