  • This is excellent. Was this done in Studio Artist?
  • Seems to be a V5 one :-)

  • Is V5 in beta? (Sorry. I'm new here.)

  • Welcome Ronald !

    Actually we all have V4.06.

Only John (and his crew) have V5 :-)

But if you are new to SA, you have many to do and discover with this release before playing with the future version...

  • Thank you. Yes. There is a lot to learn.

  • Here's the MSG preset i used to generate this image.

It's based on 3 overlaid 1C NineBlockTile processors. The NineBlock processors are some of the new MSG processors in v5. The 3 overlaid tiling patterns are 2x2, 4x4, and 6x6 from bottom to top. Note that i have those ratios locked so that they are maintained when i mutation this preset in the Evolution Editor. I've been experimenting with using fixed ratio tiling patterns like this recently, it's a cool approach to generating more interesting complexity in tiling patterns.

The 3 overlaid tiling patterns are black and white images. The black and white tiling pattern from the first 2 tiling processors is used to index into a color gradient to generate a color image with the 1to3GradMap processor. The last black and white tiling pattern is then overlaid just onto the red color channel with the last 1C NineBlockTile processor in the preset.

There are a number of interesting procedural tiling pattern generators in v5. The NineBlock patterns are based on a particular kind of quilting pattern. I'm very open to adding other pattern generators in v5, so feel free to speak up if there are other kinds of patterns anyone is interested in. I wasn't really familiar with quilting patterns until LiveArt suggested adding DiamondFigure patterns recently, which is what lead to all of these new procedural quilt pattern generator features.

We're trying to finish up v5 so that we can get it out to people to start using.

  • Thank you!  Wow!  That is everything I wanted to know about it.

Like I said, there is a lot to learn.
